'MTV Shuga' Is Returning To Nigeria Next Year

MTV Shuga is one of the few progressive shows that not only entertains but also educates its viewers. Making its debut in 2009, the TV drama series focuses on the lives of young African millennials, as they navigate through their adolescent years. If you aren't familiar with the show,  The show fuses family planning, contraception, STD prevention & sexual health education while highlighting the incidence of gender based violence and discrimination.

The new MTV Shuga season will centre around topics relevant to the modern Nigerian society, especially urban youth culture. The show puts a spotlight on family planning and real issues that affect young people and the challenges they face from day to day, with a particular focus on adolescent girls.
MTV just announced that the show will make a major comeback to Nigeria this year for its highly anticipated 6th season. Its return to Nigeria will also feature some of its former cast such as Sharon Ezeamaka, Timini Egbuson and Jemima Osunde. Also joining the MTV Shuga team for season 6 is the award-winning writer and film maker of popular TV Show, AM Hush and producer of Shuga season 4, Chris Ihidero.

Currently in pre-production, season 6 is scheduled to air early next year. Following the results of a World Bank study, it was revealed that after six months of watching MTV Shuga, Nigerian viewers were more than twice as likely to go to centers to get tested; and that the rate of girls with chlamydia who watched the show was 58% lower than those who didn’t; season 6 will be hoping to realise equally impressive results.
MTV Nigeria VJ, Ehizojia Okoeguale makes a cameo in the promo. Watch it here:
